Grant Thornton’s tax specialists complement our clients’ accounting teams while maintaining their auditors’ independence with our compliance services and customized tax planning advice. We have capabilities to advise our clients on various tax strategies including federal tax services, state and local tax services, international tax services, industry tax services, family wealth planning, and compensation and benefit plan design as well as consulting on other complex tax matters.
Tax Associate – State & Local Tax
Position Summary:
The Tax Associate in the State and Local Tax group works closely with staff on all phases of the delivery of a full range of tax planning, consulting, and compliance services to clients for multiple clients within our International Accounting Firm. The SALT Associate will assist with and learn to prepare a variety of State and Local returns.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
•Prepare tax returns for Income and Franchise Tax, Sales and Use Tax, Property Tax, and other State and Local Tax returns.
•Research and consult on various tax matters; utilize tax-related software to prepare and process returns.
•Maintain a good working relationship with clients and work effectively with client management and staff at all levels to gather information and perform tax services.
•Work closely with senior associates and managers to promptly resolve client problems or tax issues encountered in preparation process.
Qualifications
Required Skills and Experience:
•Bachelor's degree in Accounting.
•A minimum of one year or one busy season of State and Local Tax compliance and/or tax consulting experience;
•Strong teamwork and analytical skills and attention to detail.
•Strong computer skills including proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
Preferred Skills and Experience:
•A minimum of a 3.0 GPA on 4.0 scale is required and 150 semester hours of education is preferred. Desire to pursue CPA.
•Experience in public accounting is a plus.
Additional Information:
•Ability to work additional hours as needed and travel to various client sites.
