Linux System Administrator

About the Role:

Working as a key member of our incredible team you will install, configure and maintain our Linux/Unix systems and servers.  You’ll apply your vast knowledge of VMWare (ESX) including all layers of hardware and software.  You’ll also work with the team to analyze and resolve those pesky problems that surface on a daily basis.  Your input will help guide our technical direction and further optimize our data center environment.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Administering server platforms both physical and virtual running x86 and Sparc
  • Maintaining the VMware ESX/ESXi virtual environment
  • Performing system backups and recovery
  • Monitoring system performance and performing fine tuning as necessary
  • Managing our Hitachi SAN/NAS to make sure that everything runs smoothly for our business customers
  • Assisting in maintaining environment integrity and security
  • Performing capacity analysis and forecasting
  • Designing, documenting and implementing changes to environments
  • Developing maintenance policies and procedures for systems
  • Assisting with training and mentoring of junior staff
  • Providing backup capabilities to other key roles within the team

What we’re looking for from you:

  • A Bachelor degree in computer science, engineering or a related discipline
  • A minimum of 5 years of Solaris and/or Redhat Linux system administration including deployment and maintenance
  • At least 2 years of experience administering VMware ESX/ESXi servers
  • Documented experience with Enterprise Class SAN/NAS administration
  • Extensive scripting, tuning and performance monitoring experience
  • Experience installing software releases, firmware, system upgrades and patches
  • An independent thinker who thrives in a place where multiple, shifting priorities are commonplace.
  • DNS and DHCP administration experience
  • Knowledge of TCP/IP, LAN and WAN concepts and implementations
  • Excellent communications skills with customers and vendors;
  • VMWare or other certifications a plus. Disaster Recovery experience a plus
