NetEffects is seeking a Software Rules Engine Architect and Developer

Our client is conducting an assessment of the development of their next generation automated underwriting tool that is referred to as AURA NG. AURA NG will be able to process more sophisticated underwriting rules that with our solution today which requires custom development. In addition, AURA NG, will also be developed to support rules that will be necessary to support our future customer needs.

Part of the assessment will be the development of a proof of concept rules engine where the types of rules that will be required are completely tested with the new solution. The testing will include actual processing of the underwriting data against the rules where scalability is verified. The scalability testing will include a detailed understanding of the limitations of the new solutions. The parameters that will be detailed include concurrent users, response time, number of rules and types of rules.

All rules engine approaches will be considered. This includes development, open source and commercial solutions.

Our team is seeking a technical resource to lead in the development of the proof of concept rules engine. Example rules and underwriting data will be provided to this resource. The resource will work with our client on recommending a solution including build, open source or commercial products. The technical resource will then build a prototype solution utilizing the provided rules and underwriting data to test capabilities in real world scenarios. The technical resource will also conduct scalability testing of the prototype solution.

The prototype will need to be developed such that it provides a web service interface to feed underwriting data. The prototype will need to be stateless and able to process multiple requests simultaneously. It is envisioned that the rules engine prototype will utilize JSR 94 as the interface into the rules engine so that the component which processes the rules can be abstracted from the remaining aspects of the solution.

The rules admin component will not be part of the prototype. Rules coded in spreadsheets or XML documents by technical resources will be adequate for the proof of concept.

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related discipline and 5-10 yrs related work experience
Proven experience with Java, XML, Web Technologies, JSR-94, rules engines both open source (Drools) and commercial products such as Blaze Advisor and IBM Ilog,
Rules algorithm experience with Rete required and experience with Rete-2 , Rete-3, XRete and Rete-NT preferred
Financial services industry experience with life insurance experience specifically preferred
Superior communication skills.
