Job Description

Our client is one of the largest international consultancies.

They have an exciting opportunity for a Principal Environmental Consultant to join their Water and Land Environment team.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

This role requires technical excellence and client focussed effective business development based on an established water environment industry stranding to further the companies ambitions for public & private client growth. You will also play an active role as project director, manager or lead consultant within environmental or multi-disciplined projects.

-Actively develop the business and clients, particularly in support of the Water sector in the UK and overseas focusing but not limited to provision of rivers and coastal, hydromorphology, ecology water quality and EIA services.

-Be a technical expert in the field of water environment including geomorphology.

-Provide principal level technical leadership and support, as required, to the environment team across the UK.

-Play an active role as a project director, project manager or lead consultant within environment and/or multi-disciplinary projects, to achieve an agreed target of order related income.

-Be involved in project work, including report writing, organisation, consultation, project management and presentations.

-Present in both external and internal arenas.

-Lead and prepare concise effective winning proposals.

-Involvement in contract preparation (client and subcontractors).


Essential

Extensive relevant experience within a similar role.
BSc (essential) and MSc/PhD (desirable) in a related discipline, ideally from an environmental bias with an understanding of engineering principles.
Extensive experience in project management and EIA.
Knowledge of the market.
Knowledge of the freshwater environment.
Understanding of relevant legislation and government policy/guidance, as well as the EIA process.
Financial management and administration experience.
Report-writing and presentational skills.
Excellent communication, organisational and time management skills.
Ability to work on own initiative and also to work as part of a growing team.
Demonstrable track record within the environment sector.
Good track record in business development and marketing.
Team player, outgoing, confident and able to manage a team.

Desirable

Membership of IEMA, CIWEM, CIWM or equivalents.
Membership of an appropriate professional body
Previous project management experience of river management projects
Knowledge of Coastal Environment.
Experience of managing medium-large project teams
