Job Description

Roles / Experience Levels

There are two (2) possible experience levels for each role:

  • Level L is for a consultant with 4-7 years of experience

  • Level 2 is for a consultant with 8+ years of experience

 

Role Summary

 

  • The Technical Specialist works on multiple assignments simultaneously while playing a crucial role in the

  • design, development, and support of clinical software applications for University Health Network and its

  • partners, working closely with technical, business and clinical subject matter experts. The Technical

  • Specialist operates with a high degree of autonomy in managing various business, clinical and technical

  • challenges in relation to the applications that are being managed and supported.

 

Responsibilities

 

  • Principal responsibilities of the role include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Planning and developing clinical applications as part of multi-disciplinary teams according to the principles of Agile Software Development.

  • Leading customer service and application support, involving coordinating and supporting the development, quality testing, technical support and interfaces of all the applications supported by the department.

  • Performing assignments and special projects in support of departmental and/or organizational objectives, as requested.

  • Working closely with SIMS Project Management Office (PMO) resources and being a crucial part of the project team during the planning, testing and execution of new applications or functions.

 

The position ensures a stable computing environment by performing the following duties:

     

  • Developing, planning and assigning testing of new releases, upgrades, product changes, service

  • packs and critical fixes prior to distribution.

  • Exploring alternative options with the goal to recommend business/technical solutions that fit the

  • stakeholder's needs.

  • Creating feasibility studies or proposals for senior management for executive decisions.

  • Acting as a site lead and lead teams with minimal supervision, build consensus.

  • Strong coaching skills, providing support and fostering development of others.

  •  

  • Planning and maintaining the implementation of both operational and strategic objectives for the department.

  • Managing escalated issues, risks and technology related problems appropriately.

  • Maintaining standards at appropriate levels of technical and standard operational procedure documentation;

  • Articulating clear business and technical solutions to senior management using in written and/or verbal communications and help influence decision making.

  • Supervise, manage, and provide technical expertise in application design and development.

  • Work as part of a team to implement and deploy new systems under the direction of team lead or manager.

  • Supervise and support the implementation, integration and migration of developed systems for partner sites.

  • Research, evaluate, and recommend new systems, applications, and or technology.

  • Makes high level design choices, defines and upholds technical standards, including coding standards, tools, or platforms.

  • Triage complex environment, configuration and application issues and perform effective troubleshooting/analysis and resolution coordination.

  • identify, collect and implement new application-environment requirements.

  • Design, develop and implement tools to improve application performance, stability and availability Demonstrate a thorough understanding of alljob related functions and ensure work tasks/volumes

  • are processed accurately and effectively on a day-to-day basis.

  • Provide support and coordinate with other technology work teams.

  • Acts as the Subject Matter Expert/Mentor and holds overall accountability for the technical delivery and implementation of projects involving complex integrations.

  • Participates as technical or business consultant in design, development, coding, testing, and debugging new packaged solutions or significant enhancements to existing applications.

 

Qualifications

 

  • Undergraduate degree or college diploma in Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, Health lnformatics, or equivalent required.

  • Understanding of the Canadian healthcare system and complexities of clinical processes is an asset.

  • Ability to measure and demonstrate the value of lT solutions delivered.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple complex initiatives.

  • Ability to communicate complex and technical concepts clearly with non-technical as well as technical personnel at all levels of the organization.

 

  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills with the ability to quickly adapt to changing and competing priorities.

  • Proven ability to work in a team environment with individuals of diverse backgrounds.

  • Ability to prioritize and perform multiple tasks with minimal direction.

  • Desired working experience in a multidisciplinary setting accessing multiple databases in a multisystem, multi-architecture environment.

 

Sharepoint Technical Specialist

  • 4+ advanced technical work experience on Sharepoint application development, configuration and set-up across various technology platforms.

  • 4+ years experience using the Systems Development Life Cycle and/or the Rational Unified Process and/or agile development including the creation of Use Cases, Activity Diagrams and Class Diagrams.

  • 4+ years experience creating code documentation and unit test scripts and validating code compliance.

  • Proven experience installing, upgrading and maintaining web servers and associated operating systems.

  • Extensive experience with Microsoft SharePoint (MOSS) 2007 and 2010.

  • Extensive experience deploying and maintaining llS, using Windows 2003 and higher.

  • Ability to design and manage MS SQL databases.

  • Extensive experience in deploying and configuring ASP.NET web applications.

  • Demonstrated experience supporting server-side applications.

  • Experience using software design support tools and productivity suites such as Visio, Office, and Project.

  • Experience developing and administering applications and workflow using Microsoft SharePoint.

  • Experience with SharePoint governance and taxonomy.

  • Experience testing and installing patches and hotfixes and deploying Service Packs.

  • Experience building and rebuilding SharePoint instances (development, staging, production, etc.).

  • Experience reviewing and monitoring SharePoint web server-application logs.

  • Experience restoring web applications, site collections or data as required.

  • Experience troubleshooting cases related to SharePoint functionality.

  • Experience in providing orientation and training to SharePoint site owners and trainers.

  • Experience importing, testing and installing web parts, templates and third-party tools.

  • Experience managing services and web applications through SharePoint Central Administration and PowerShell.

  • Experience in documenting support procedures, creating and communicating guidelines and best practices

  • Experience in reviewing and analyzing the effectiveness and efficiency of existing SharePoint architecture and suggesting strategies for improving or further leveraging infrastructure

  • Experience in User authentication setup and support

  • Experience in Web Portal utilization and statistics analysis and reporting

  • Experience planning, documenting and testing disaster recovery processes and procedures
