Responsibilities
Assist in trouble shooting of existing control and power systems associated with varied transportation vehicles and systems. Perform electrical engineering duties including taking data measurements, performing engineering analysis, developing/implementing engineering recommendations and solutions, supervising fabrication and installation efforts and performing acceptance testing. Provide peer design reviews to ensure codes, standards and design requirements are met. Perform as part of, or in the leadership role, an engineering team responsible for developing engineering documentation including: drawings/schematics, system requirements, specifications, hazards analysis, vendor performance specifications, wire lists, troubleshooting & maintenance procedures, test & adjust and acceptance test plans.
Basic Qualifications
Proven five (5) to eight (8) years experience in electrical/electronics engineering within the transportation system industry; light rail system experience preferred.
Demonstrated experience with open and closed loop feedback control systems, programmable logic controllers (PLC's), relay logic, electric motors (AC and DC) and motor controllers (variable frequency, DC, stepper and servo drives), power conditioning and distributed control networks (eg. ControlNet)
Demonstrated experience in design, installation/testing support and sustaining/plant engineering of safety critical systems.
Demonstrated timely, field, troubleshooting experience including solution development and implementation in the industrial and transportation industries.
Proven knowledge of National Electrical Code, NFPA 79 and UL 508A.
Demonstrated strong organizational, leadership and time management skills.
Demonstrated strong oral, written and presentation communication skills including use of Windows based Microsoft Office programs.
Demonstrated proficient skill in use of engineering software including AutoCAD.
Must be flexible with work schedule, including overtime, weekends, holidays and 2nd & 3rd shift assignments
Preferred Qualifications
Proven PE
Proven knowledge transportation industry standards. (eg. American Association of Railroads, American Boat & Yacht Council, DOT regulations, etc.)
Demonstrated experience with AutoCAD Electrical software.
Demonstrated experience with software programming including ladder logic (Allen Bradley or Siemens) and C environments.
Demonstrated proficiency in analysis software such as Matlab, SimulLink, MathCad or equivalent.
Demonstrated knowledge of partnering with related engineering disciplines including Mechanical Machine Design, Facility Power and others.
Demonstrated knowledge of PC & network systems including: hardware, switches/routers, wireless, cabling/fiber communication, IP configuration, network security and general troubleshooting.
Demonstrated engineering experience with fare based passenger carrying watercraft
Required Education
Proven Bachelors or Masters Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent from an ABET accredited curriculum.
