Job Description

Our client is currently seeking an Interface Specialist for an opportunity in the Port Hope Area (clean-up) Initiative (PHAI). If you have a minimum of 5 years’ experience leading projects/teams in contaminated site remediation and 10 years related construction work experience, than this may be the opportunity for you!

Job Duties & Responsibilities:
-Work under the direction of the Chief Engineer in coordinating and overseeing engineering design/construction activities related to various aspects of the PHAI (including 2 long-term waste management facilities and remediation of contaminated sites in the Port Hope area).
-Interact directly with Public Works & Government Services Canada (PHGSC) hired construction supervisors, contractors and other contributing parties involved in remediation and construction activities.
-Interface with the Waste Facility Operations Team and Compliance staff to ensure contract specifications and designs and regulatory requirements are being met.
-Provide expert advice and lead development of practical and economical solutions to specific engineering problems.
-Evaluate technical progress on construction activities, studies and plans against standards, objectives and contract specifications. Provide advanced technological advice and support as needed.
-Interface between municipal staff and project staff to ensure that municipal standards, requests and input is incorporated into development of the project as appropriate.
-Review/recommend acceptance of contractor change orders/associated design revisions to ensure consistency with existing designs. Participate in the preparation and review of as-builts, work plans and related documents supporting the remediation and development of the long-term waste management facilities.

Qualifications:
-Minimum of 5 years’ PROVEN experience executing projects/leading project teams dealing with contaminated site remediation (radiological/chemical/hazardous/industrial wastes). This includes providing guidance to contractors/consultants in developing execution plans and field changes, experience in low level radioactive waste or hazardous chemical/industrial waste management containment system construction.
-10+ years’ related construction work experience.
-University degree in an engineering or applied science field, or equivalent experience resulting in knowledge of an engineering speciality (ie. Hazardous/radioactive waste management systems).
-10+ years’ related construction work experience.
-Broad knowledge of available technology for low-level radioactive waste management solutions, contaminated site remediation requirements, landfill design, radiation and environment protection and monitoring would be an asset.
-Registration or eligibility for membership in a professional engineering association (P.Eng.) is desirable.
-Proven experience with contract management and interacting/influencing contractors/consultants.
-Mature knowledge of Project Management principles and hands-on experience in the management of construction and engineering activities during various phases of the PHAI (concept, design, procurement, construction, commissioning, operation and decommissioning).
-High level of creative thinking and demonstrate initiative by keeping abreast of developments/technologies related to low-level radioactive waste management and related subjects.
-Proven “team player”, able to motivate themselves and their team members and display strong leadership qualities and the ability to work effectively with staff members of varying disciplines.
-Strong written/verbal communication skills.
