Primary Purpose The Network Management Engineer will utilize their experience to support I.T. business processes and provide recommended network management solutions to large IP Utility customers. Their role is to participate in the research, analysis, design, implementation, testing, and troubleshooting of these solutions in large and complex networks to support Smart Grid client systems. This person will take the lead in developing and designing monitoring and management solutions, configuration, and implementation for utility clients.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities • Responsible for identifying, researching, and implementing Network Operational Management solutions for Smart Grid utility clients. This includes creating best practice recommendations, test plans, implementation and preliminary support of the NMS Solutions.
• Interact with clients (sometimes non-technical clients) to complete current and future communication needs
• Experience or general knowledge with a wide array of NMS products (such as Cisco CiscoWorks LMS, Cisco Prime, HP OpenView, Solarwinds Orion, NetScout), Syslog capture methods, Event Management and Correlation Systems, and LAN/WAN technologies
• Provide subject matter expertise on network monitoring solutions.
• Develop and design methods, tools and scripts within a defined framework and in accordance to customer requirements.
• Capable of optimizing day-to-day operational stability with the continual need to improve the service and deploy new services, processes and technologies.
• Understand, advocate, and support IT strategies
• Mentor others on the Telecommunication team
Minimum Qualifications • 3+ years experience in the IT Industry
• Experience with Network, Server and Application Monitoring.
• SNMP knowledge and understanding a MUST, prior experience working in an analyst capacity for SNMP related projects is highly preferred
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills toward both technical and non-technical audiences
Preferred Job Qualifications • Scripting experience with tools like Perl, Python, PHP.
• Experience gathering requirements from different business units, stakeholders and engineering teams.
• Experience providing engineering support for large-scale complex data networks
• BS degree in Engineering, Computer Science, MIS, or extensive technical hands-on field experience
