Job Title: Deputy Projects Editor
Key Purpose:
Assist the special projects editor with conceiving, planning and delivering a range of commercially-backed content-driven products for the Retail Week and Drapers brands. The deputy projects editor will contribute towards bespoke sponsored supplements, webinars, consumer and business research reports, help plan and attend events, meet with clients and act as a link between the sales and editorial teams. Confidence to host and speak at events, and interview on camera, is an essential requirement of the job.
Key Accountabilities:
- Build a knowledgebase and contacts book relevant to the Retail Week and Drapers brands
- Ability to work to a range of tight deadlines and excellent time-management skills are essential
- Create content that is compelling for readers while meeting revenue and profitability objectives.
- Ability to act as an ambassador for the brands at events, client meetings, conferences etc.
Attendance at breakfast and evening events is a crucial part of the role, sometimes at short notice. Working outside of contracted hours may also be necessary at short notice in order to deliver projects to agreed timelines.
Qualifications and Experience:
Candidates should be educated to degree level, and potentially hold a post-graduate qualification in journalism.
They are likely to already be in a position of responsibility on a weekly or monthly business magazine, probably in a features writing/editing role with a minimum of two years’ experience.
Alternatively they may have experience in a business information/market analyst role or come from a mixed business journalism/business PR background.
Knowledge of at least one of the following is desirable: retail industry, fashion industry, technology industry, property industry, supply chain industry.
Skills & Competencies:
Excellent writing skills, the ability to brief other writers and designers and confidence to interact with key clients are all essentials.
The role will require good working relationships to be built with other departments including sales, marketing, events, production and design as well as the news and features desks of the magazines.
Ability to quickly learn about new topics to a degree that allows you to write/speak about them with authority
Highly numerate, with the ability to analyse volumes of data, identify trends and write/speak about findings with confidence.
Personal Attributes:
Outgoing and confident. Ability to fit into a very dynamic friendly team but at the same time be ultra professional with clients.
Creative and able to develop new content ideas.
