Job Description

Tier 1 Investment Bank looking for a senior product controller to join the equity derivatives flow team in a managerial role with senior front office face off.

The Finance Department is organised via a matrix of regional and global functions. Regional Controllers ensure the accuracy and integrity of our legal entity accounts and that all accounting, legal, tax and Regulatory requirements are met.

Global Products Controllers are business aligned to provide product, valuation and accounting control as well as value added management information and decision support. Taken together, they ensure that standards, policies and procedures are applied efficiently and effectively across the Investment Bank.

The Equities Product Control team are primarily responsible for the controlling and reporting of the global equities Business, a substantial business unit of the Investment Bank, and to provide management information support to senior heads of the equities business. This global team has over 240 staff based in London, Stamford, Sydney, Hong Kong, Tokyo and Zurich. This team will also engage in implementations required to deliver enhanced control processes around the GGL.

The controller will operate within the Equity Derivatives Flow team in the London-based group. The team’s main responsibility is the production and control of the daily P&L for the Vanilla Derivative books in the UK. The books cover a wide variety of European markets and products, primarily with vanilla instruments, however also including more exotic derivative products. You would have ownership of the financial integrity and supervisory review function of 5 FTE, and senior front office face off. 

The group covers Equity Flow Derivatives and Equity Linked (Convertible Bonds);

  • Daily P&L production and validation to traders and senior management.
  • Daily P&L analysis of the attributed PnL, review of the risk exposures on the book
  • Understanding Day 1 PnL and trader reserves
  • Daily and MTD Commentary relating back to opening Risk and Market movements
  • Reconciliation of reported P&L to underlying ledgers.
  • Balance sheet review and analysis.
  • Liaison with trading desk, Valuations, Operations, financial Reporting etc to discuss and resolve ad hoc issues concerning bookings, valuations, new business and other areas.

The role will include liaison with the Market Risk department and the candidate should develop a detailed understanding of underlying valuations and the risk systems. The role should also develop to incorporate process review and innovation; this may be in the form of relevant project work.

Strong analytical and communication skills are required, combined with a good understanding of the business environment.

The role will be key in facing off to the Senior Desk Heads, driving through offshoring and process excellence projects.
