Sales Engineer - Telecoms, NEW YORK CITY




Our client, a leading provider of data network services, has an opening for a Sales Engineer (SE) located in their metro New York City area sales office.  The SE will be responsible for provider technical support to my client's Sales team within Metro New York focusing on Enterprise accounts.  The primary product sets will include: Dark Fiber, Metro Ethernet, Optical Access Products such as DWDM and SONET, Internet Access ( IP, VPN, MPLS) and Colocation services. 



  • Work with vendors, internal operations organizations, Sales and the customers to develop the optimum solution for clients.
  • Meeting with clients to discuss their networking needs.
  • Acquiring and maintaining a thorough technical and procedural understanding of Sales cycles, products/services and a thorough technical understanding of like industries.
  • Working with vendors to provide technical sales support collateral or to provide design input to aid in the development of a technical solution.
  • Obtaining internal and external costs and forwarding these on to Business Operations.
  • Obtaining necessary approvals from various marketing, delivery and maintenance organizations to support non-standard or new product solutions.
  • Providing technical descriptions and drawings for bids, as required.
  • Developing and performing technical presentations to clients on proposed solutions, as required (using Visio, PowerPoint or equivalent applications).
  • Assisting in closing new business opportunities by gaining a thorough technical and business understanding of clients needs and helping Sales qualify, identify, and close new opportunities.
  • Assisting with technical responses to RFI's and RFP's.
  • The individual must comply with departmental and corporate internal controls and all internal controls processes.
  • The individual must possess and employ the highest ethical and business standards and always conduct himself/herself with the greatest degree of professional integrity.


  • Requires at least 5 years of industry experience working as an Sales Engineer in the telecommunications industry supporting Ethernet and DWDM technologies.
  • Hosting and LAN Interconnect experience with knowledge of Internet protocols including IP, Firewalls, and high availability client LAN design. Knowledgeable on LAN and WAN technologies such as Routers, switches, servers, WAN circuits Network systems and security systems.
  • Experienced in the design and features of metro optical transport solutions such as Ethernet, Storage Area Networking (SAN), CWDM, DWDM and SONET.
