Job Description

Leading cardiac hospital seeks a Nurse Manager/Nurse Practitioner to provide oversight of clinical, education, quality improvement, business and administrative functions for the Cardiac Service Department

Responsibilities include

• Model and maintain a customer service focus in a courteous and helpful manner.
• Follows up on patient and physician requests/issues/concerns in a prompt and appropriate manner
• Provide oversight of Nurse Practitioner’s in conjunction with clinical and administrative leadership for the Attending Cardiology Service (ACS).
• Provide supervision of fellows, residents and other trainees caring for patients under the auspices of the Attending Cardiology Service/Division
• Appropriately manage resources consist with ACS goals; assist with budget preparation and volume projections. Collaborate with physicians, managers and associates to improve operations, maximize revenue and minimize cost.
• Prepare administrative reports such as service review, length of stay, physician utilization, diagnoses, and Nurse Practitioner productivity and statistics by the 7th business day of each month.
• Develop and implement short and long term goals and objectives for the Attending Cardiology Service in conjunction with the clinical and administrative leadership.
• Assist in development, monitoring and reporting of an effective quality improvement program. Writes annual QI plan(s) for service and maintains report(s) of all QI activities. Sets quantifiable goals and analyzes data to evaluate achievement of those goals.
• Coordinate and arrange staff meeting; notifies participants and prepares agenda, minutes and all the necessary documents.
• Oversee and monitor all purchase requisitions for areas of responsibility both on paper requisitions and in Oracle.
• Work with IT on refining information services for the practice. Researches and makes recommendations related to system needs, troubleshoots systems problems and coordinators training of associates/NP’s all systems.
• Assure that the ability of assigned provider is congruent with patient/family health care needs.
• Systematically and continuously assess patient’s physical, psychosocial and spiritual health status and knowledge base to determine patient’s health care and educational needs as needed.
• Participate in developing a therapeutic plan of care in accordance with supervising physicians by assessing patient needs and diagnosing illness and physical conditions as needed.
• Manage all urgent and emergent patient care needs, i.e. recognizing signs and symptoms of life threatening medical problems (chest pain, dyspnea, fevers and abdominal pain), assist during any needed resuscitation.
• Develop a patient centered plan of care based on clinical standards of care in collaboration with the inter-disciplinary care team.
• Maintain a high level of communication regarding all patient care with the supervising physician.
• Ensure the evaluation and discharge of all inpatients in accordance with the supervising and admitting physicians
• Ensure the completion of all discharge summaries and related forms.
• Teach, counsel, and assist individuals and families to assume responsibility for prevention of illness and the promotion, maintenance and restoration of health.
• Prepare administrative reports such as service review, length of stay, physician utilization, diagnoses, and Nurse Practitioner productivity and statistics by the 7th business day of each month.
• Manage all human resources activities for the ACS program, including but not limited to recruitment, transfers, and hiring, training, supervising and disciplinary actions.
• Assist in development, monitoring and reporting of an effective quality improvement program.
• Coordinate and arranges staff meeting; notifies participants and prepares agenda, minutes and all the necessary documents.
 
Requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree and Master’s degree in Nursing required
• Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program
• Three to five years related administrative / supervisory experience in a health care environment
• Knowledge of health care issues and regulations, medical terminology, hospital and physician billing and computer systems
• Proficient with Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access
• Possesses excellent communication (written and verbal), customer service and organizational skills
