Job Description

Nestled in the Rocky Mountains in west-central Alberta this long term mining operation which produces premium, low volatile metallurgical coking coal for export to the world steel industry has a new vacancy for a knowledgeable Senior Environmental Leader.  This position is an exciting opportunity for an individual who is looking to join a growing company.

Reporting to the Superintendent of Environment, Safety & Health, the Sr. Environmental Leader’s primary responsibility is to provide leadership in the development, implementation and continuous improvement of environmental programs so as to ensure that all regulatory requirements are met and facilities are operated in a responsible and sustainable manner.   Furthermore, the incumbent will be directly accountable for the Sr. Environmental Coordinator, Environmental Engineer and Aboriginal Affairs Coordinator.  Other responsibilities of the role include: leading renewal applications and licensing processes with regulatory agencies, assisting with the budgeting process, and,= providing direction/support for agreements with aboriginal communities.

In order to be successful in this role you will have to draw upon your environmental management and project management experience within the mining (or similar) industry.  Your experience as an environmental professional coupled with your understanding of provincial and federal environmental legislation is essential. Additional understanding of ISO 14001 standards is desirable.  And of course, your university degree in environmental science (or a similar area) is the foundation upon which your knowledge and work experience has been built.

If you are an experienced Environmental Professional with management experience in the mining industry please email a copy of your resume to Caitlin Hungerford at chungerford@hays.ca.  All applications will be treated in the strictest of confidence.
