Technical Manager - Mountaintop, PA
SUMMARY:
The Technical Manager reports directly to the Plant Manager. The Technical Manager is responsible for overseeing the Maintenance Manager and Maintenance activities within the Maintenance Department as these tasks relate to solving problems with production machines within the manufacturing process and in compliance with State, Federal and company policies, procedures and other company programs or certifications. The Technical Manager is also responsible for overseeing and directing special projects in the plant and is expected to work with and negotiate with contractors to complete these special projects. May travel at times to accomplish the above.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
1. MANUFACTURING; Oversees the development, schedule and controls of a preventative maintenance program to maintain production machinery and equipment in proper working condition. Oversees plans for a continual work schedule to maintain a safe and healthy condition on Company property in order to achieve the best working conditions for all employees. Oversees and assists in the activities of all workers engaged in the maintenance, electrical and mechanical operations and assists in their training or development where needed. Inspects jobs in process and at completion to ensure that standards of workmanship and safety are maintained. Ensures proper maintenance of facility machinery and building. Maintains inventories of maintenance material, supplies and repair parts at required level. Responsible for analyzing and job costing of all maintenance activities. Interprets mechanical and electrical specifications and operational manuals to subordinate staff for the purposes of proper maintenance and repair of plant equipment. Recommends, plans, and implements equipment needs to improve production efficiency and/or cost reduction procedures. Directs staffing, training, discipline and recommendation of termination of Maintenance Department personnel. Stays informed concerning new manufacturing technology and equipment and investigates their potential applications. Recommends to the Plant Manager incorporation of new technology for company application where feasible and practical. Develop P.M. programs that are effective and efficient. Plan for future growth and expansion of plant. Meet with vendors and contractors to work out service agreements and support. Interviews and hires personnel for department. Recommend pay increases or promotions based on employees work performance and progress in gaining job knowledge. Conducts performance appraisals. Counsels employees as needed in regards to work performance, attendance, safety or other issues. Conducts employee meetings to keep employees informed on goals, company policies/rules and safety. Assures employee/employer relationships are maintained. Attends other meetings as required.
II. OPERATIONAL COMMUNICATIONS; Knowledgeable concerning mechanical and electrical principles, machining practices, the property of metals and the application of mathematics for production machinery. Knowledgeable concerning modern fabrication and assembly techniques and machine-shop practices and techniques. Able to mentally visualize and comprehend all aspects of a manufacturing equipment or tooling problem, understand the inter-relationships of factors affecting a given situation, and to be attentive to detail. Capable of efficiently integrating existing methods with new innovations to economically solve production problems in a timely manner. Has initiative and ability to work effectively with little direction. Working knowledge of computer controlled machine tools and exposure to high volume automated production equipment. Must have good speaking and telephone skills. Must be able to read, write and understand English. Must be proficient in Excel and Word programs. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, employees and outside vendors and contractors by telephone, in person and through written and verbal correspondence. Self motivated with superior problem solving skills.
III. HEALTH AND SAFETY; Adheres to safety policies and procedures in compliance with this company’s guidelines including wearing the proper PPE in designated areas. Visually inspects production area for tripping hazards, equipment safeguards, employee’s safety, adherence to policies and maintains compliance with OSHA, other governmental agencies and housekeeping rules.
QUALIFICATIONS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
High School diploma or equivalent. Must have a technical degree or a minimum of five years of experience in related field, desirably in an industrial manufacturing environment or an industrial electrical and maintenance related field with blown film.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, write, understand and communicate in English. Able to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Must have very good mathematical skills with ability to do algebra and trigonometry. Ability to use figure formulas and complex equations.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. The employee must be able to keep up with moderate to high/fast speed production machines (including but not limited to winders, bag machines, printing presses, extruders, blenders, transformers, electrical panels, air conditioning equipment and pumps). Works with high temperature equipment and moving equipment of varying speeds. Manual dexterity required with exposure to arm, wrist and back fatigue. The employee continuously uses their arms, hands and fingers to handle, grasp, hold, grip and squeeze. The employee routinely bends and lifts kneels, squats, pulls and drags, climbs/descends stairs into/from the tower and silo areas 50 to 65 feet in the air. The employee may at times climb vertical OSHA protected ladder 60 feet in the air outside on silo. May lift up to 65 lbs. as needed. The employee stands approximately 7 hours and routinely walks to and from the production area consulting with maintenance and production staff and offering assistance where needed. Must be available by pager at all times.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions on this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is constantly exposed to moving mechanical parts and live electrical components. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to very loud. An essential part of this position is to work in a teamwork environment. The employee is continuously exposed to temperature variances; extreme heat during the Spring and Summer and cold temperatures during the Winter.
Bottom Line: We need someone with blown film experience, project management, strong mechanical and electrical knowledge. MUST be willing to support a 24/7 operation and excellent ability to multi-task and prioritize.
