Scientific Associate I - Cambridge, MA

Job Description:  

Duties:
This level involves learning activities / tasks associated with own work / role: Learns to work / cooperate with colleagues. Depends on others for instructions, guidance and direction. Typically has up to two years of experience. Conduct lab activities under supervision to support research projects. Analyze and QA data and report results according to established policies and procedures. Maintain required documentation for processes and equipment.

Perform recombinant proteins/bio-molecules production and/or purification and/or
characterization activities
Collects data and performs preliminary analyses to aid in discussions with supervisor
Provides slides for presentations by others
Provides input into discussion of data and protocols with supervisor
Is prepared to discuss feasibility of protocol optimization/adaptation
Evaluates data to scrutinize validity and improve protocols with approval of supervisor

Skills:

Understands and applies job-relevant client processes (e.g. performance management, development planning, key performance indicators, work instructions)
Understands timelines and resource management
Understands function operating procedures and/or internal policies required to maintain quality standards and to protect client's intellectual property
Reviews and/or authors laboratory journals
AKTA systems and standard chromatographic techniques, SDS-PAGE, Western blotting, protein quantification (UV absorbance, BCA, etc), HPLC, cell culture (mammalian and insect expression systems). Some experience with ELISA, SPR, and other biophysical techniques is desirable but not required. Proven ability to be a team player and to adapt to changing timelines is also desirable.
Understands and effectively conducts laboratory experiments. Contributes to written presentations. Participates in experimental design. Conducts defined work assignments.

Education:

HS, BS, or MS with 0 - 2 years
