DESCRIPTION

The focus of a SQL Server Database Administrator is the design, installation, configuration, and administration of Microsoft database systems and infrastructure. A SQL Server Database Administrator should have a detailed understanding of multiple Microsoft server technologies and be able lead troubleshooting, configuration and administrative efforts on a day-to-day basis.

Responsibilities may include:
• Support for issues entered in the Help Desk ticketing system including application SQL support, SQL backup/restores and other SQL Server support requests/issues
• Monitoring, administering and troubleshooting the SQL server environment including SQL Server performance, log shipping, mirroring, SQL replication and Windows clustering
• Backup operations and patching/software deployment as related to the SQL Server infrastructure
• Maintaining SQL server team operational procedures and documentation (disaster recovery, patch management, backup operations, antivirus, change management)
• Ability to plan for infrastructure and operational changes such as SQL server and infrastructure upgrades

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

Minimum Requirements:
• 3-5 years of experience in providing Level 2/Level 3 operations support for a Windows based SQL server infrastructure
• Worked in environments supporting a minimum of 100 servers and 800 users
• Supported SQL server environments (2008, 2005, 2000) that included over 15 physical SQL servers with 50 plus databases and high transaction SQL server clusters
• Experience in supporting web application infrastructure, application development support teams and large-scale full lifecycle development projects
• Detail oriented with excellent organizational and multi-tasking skills
• Excellent customer service and communications skills in order to quickly and effectively troubleshoot/resolve issues
• Knowledge of Help Desk ticketing systems (Remedy, etc.)
• Knowledge of SQL Server Administration tools (SQL Server Enterprise Manager, Query Analyzer, Server/Client Network Utility)
• Understanding of networking and troubleshooting including TCP/IP and DNS

Preferred Requirements:
• MCTIP: Database Administrator certification
• MCTIP: EA certification
• Knowledge of ITIL and/or MOF operational processes
• Hyper-V and VMWare knowledge highly recommended
• Knowledge of SCOM and SCVMM
• Knowledge of WSUS/SCCM and Patch Management
• Backup operations experience recommended (Symantec, Veritas, Legato, CommVault)
• Antivirus operations experience recommended (Symantec, Trend, Forefront)
• Data center support and operations experience
• Storage Management experience (NetApp, EMC)
• Experience working with offshore or remote teams
