Job Description
The Nurse Practitioner for the Ambulatory Operating Room of the Surgical Services Division will assist the surgeons in providing primary health care in the treatment of patients. Will complete history, physicals, and pre/post-op orders. The Nurse Practitioner will be accountable to the Nurse Manager of the Main OR. The Doctor of the Day will direct the NP to the cases needing assistance.  Will do services lines. Neuro, Ortho and ideally Spinal
Additional Duties and Responsibilities  
Minimum Training and Education Master's degree in Nursing from an accredited school of nursing and two years clinical operating room experience in the specialty area required. Certification as a Family Nurse Practitioner or Adult Nurse Practitioner through ANCC or AANP required unless a new graduate. New graduates must be certification eligible upon employment, and obtain certification within six months of employment. Requires licensure as a Registered Nurse and hold official recognition as a Nurse Practitioner from the South Carolina Board of Nursing. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) required, either a certification from an American Heart Association (AHA) BLS for Healthcare Providers (or AHA recognized equivalent) or an American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider. Must obtain First Assist certification within the first six months of employment.  
Physically able to handle all requirements of a nurse including standing for long periods of time and lift objects up to 50 pounds. Demonstrates knowledge and skills required to provide care and/or service appropriate to the age and level of development of patients, with consideration of the needs of patients' families. Exhibits prior leadership experiences and demonstrates ability to facilitate change. Employee is expected to carry forth the responsibilities with minimum supervision, while exercising sound judgment, discretion, initiative and demonstrating a positive professional and personal image. Requires working under stressful conditions or working irregular hours. Freedom from mental disorders which would interfere with the performance of duties. Speaking ability sufficient to communicate effectively with other individuals in person or over a telephone. Requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range. Absence of color-blindness required. Some exposure to communicable diseases and body fluids possible. Ability to operate patient care equipment is a must. Requires frequent bending, stooping, reaching, pushing and pulling. Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients. Manual and finger dexterity and hand/eye coordination.
