Job Description

MarketPro is hiring a (contract to hire) programmer to lead back end development for a Detroit client's interactive web and multimedia team.

 

The lead back end developer's role is principally to write server-side software (including web services and databases) that interface with HTML, CSS, JS, and Flash built by the front end developers.  The back end developer is also relied on to set up and manage hosting environments when necessary, and to be the software design expert when architecting large projects.

 

A strong candidate will have the following qualities:

 - Actively self-teaches, researches, and participates in the latest standards of web development

 - Enjoys building and completing short life-cycle, creative-rich web campaigns; works well under deadline

 - Comfortable acting in a light management role, architecting software and handing off implementation to peers

 - Interested in mentoring and sharing experience with peers

 - Interested in producing excellent work in a tight-knit team

 

Required Technical Skills:

 - Some experience with front end development (HTML, CSS3, JSON, jQuery)

 - Some Facebook and Twitter API development experience

 - Strong experience with Linux server configuration and administration (Apache, PHP, MySQL, vsftpd, sendmail); terminal experience strongly preferred

 - Strong experience with PHP framework-based and CMS-based development (Wordpress, CakePHP or similar strongly preferred)

 - Strong experience with relational database development, exposing web services to access and manipulate server-side databases

 

Other Skills:

 - Strong ability to troubleshoot and solve technical problems with research and testing

 - Clear, direct communication verbally and in writing

 - Easy-going personality, gels well with a small, tight-knit team
